San Lorenzo's Fort is located in the entrance of the Chagres River, in Colon, this is one of the oldest Spanish fortresses in America. It was built in 1598 by orders of King Philip II, on top of a high reef, dominating the river's entrance and its main purpose was to protect Portobelo from possible attacks from pirates wanting to loot the city of the treasures brought in from Perú, Ecuador, and Colombia which were headed towards Spain.

How to get there San Lorenzo's Fort?
Take the road to the Gatun Locks. After a 20 minute drive you will reach the Gatun Locks Bridge. Go straight up to the security gate at Fort Sherman. Then turn left where you will see the visitors center of the San Lorenzo protected area. Then go straight to the end to reach the Fort.
