Boeing 737-800 Is Part Of A Large Order Panama's Copa Airlines Has Placed With Boeing

Boeing and Panama City-based Copa Airlines announced an order for 22 737-800 aircraft Tuesday. Boeing previously attributed the order to an unidentified customer.

"These 22 firm aircraft plus 10 options, which deliver between 2015 and 2018, are an integral part of our medium-term growth plan," Copa Chief Executive Officer Pedro Heilbron said in a news release. "This is the largest aircraft order in Copa's history, which is a reflection not only of our confidence in the future of Latin America and Panama, but also of our successful business model, which has made our Hub of the America's the best connecting point for intra-Latin America travel."

The 22 airplanes are worth approximately $1.7 billion at list prices, although airlines generally get large discounts. Over the past two years, Copa has bought 37 737-800s from Boeing and signed leasing agreements for another 10.

Boeing received orders for 449 737s from Jan. 1 through Nov. 23, with cancellation of orders of 14, for a net of 435.
