Learn Everything About Panama Canal In Museum Of Afroantillean Here Is More Info

Since 1980, Panama's   Afroantillean Museum offered the possibility of learning about one of the most important facets of the construction of the Canal. The Museum has an exhibition hall that shows photographs of the arrival of the West Indian immigrants to Panama and their participation in the construction of the Trans-isthmian Railway and the Inter-oceanic Canal. Guided tours are offered in this hall and during the month of August, the museum organizes conferences and exhibitions elusive to the construction of the Canal.

How to get there?

The Museum is located between 24th Street and Justo Arosemena Avenue in the community of Calidonia. You may take a cab that will take you directly to the museum. You may also take a bus of the Plaza 5 de Mayo route and walk to the Justo Arosemena Avenue or to Peru Avenue.

Greenbelts in Panama City

Nestled in the heart of Panama's peaceful San Francisco neighborhood, Parque Omar offers environmentmental beauty in an urban setting.  With kilometers of paths and greenways, it's a perfect place to get out of the house and get some exercise.  There are tennis courts and soccer fields and children's playgrounds open to the public.  The park is also home to Panama's National Library.  While Parque Omar has been around for awhile, a trend of continuing to build parks and recreational areas as the city expands bodes well for the beauty of Panama and the health of her residents.

Green connection between new and old

With the aforementioned expansion of the Cinta Costa, Panama's oceanfront boulevard will now have pedestrian, roller skating, and bicycle paths stretching all the way from the modern Skyscrapers of Patilla to the colonial Elegance of Casco Viejo.  Thousands of residences and hotel rooms will have easy access to this costal strip, where tourists may try their hand at tropical exercise or immerse themselves in one of the many seasonal parades planned for the area.

Gentrification continues in San Felipe

Panama is continuing the success of the Casco Antiguo district by extending the effort to carefully restore historical architecture into the surrounding neighborhoods.  At the same time, the Cinta Costera, Panama's relatively system of waterfront highways and parks, is being extended to accomodate the increased activity in the area.  Seen here, the skilled local craftsmen nestled in with the fishing fleet, buildings that are to be restored, and the results of some of their previous efforts.

Panama's alternative scene

Last night I wandered the moody streets of Panama's old city looking for a bar that moves.  With tents and torches, La Casona, as it's known, occupies ruined buildings of Casco Viejo before they are restored to their original condition, giving home to a unique mix of alternative music, styles, and personalities.  Past the midnight food stands, through the quinta Alley, down a broken stairway onto a rock balcony overlooking the ocean, I found it.  The lights of the Panama Canal twinkled in the distance and the red stage flood washed over me as an acoustic night, showcasing local singer/songwriter talent, got underway.  The mix of people is amazing.  I met circus performers, Spanish businessmen, emigres from Colombia, visitors from Venezuela, onlookers from the United States, and as always, the strong local contingent cheering on their friends.  Panama is a party.  If you want glittering glass nightclubs and a Miami style dance scene, we've got that, but if you're on a different vibe, well, we've got that too!
